LTC Samantha A. Lewis

LTC Samantha A. Lewis has served the Texas Army National Guard for 21 years. She holds a Bachelor in Nutrition from the University of the Incarnate Word and commissioned within ROTC at St. Mary’s University in 2003 as a Medical Service Corps Officer and in November 2011 LTC Lewis joined the Active Guard Reserve (AGR) program within the Texas Army National Guard.

In 2014, she served as the Intel and Sustainment Commander for the 36th Infantry Division’s HHBN, overseeing 236 personnel and advising on staff employment during tactical operations. Earlier in her career, LTC Lewis held various key positions, including the 111th MMB Operations, Intel OIC/2IC, and served overseas in Kosovo (KFOR-7 2005), Trinidad and Tobago (NEW HORIZON 2008), and Basrah, Iraq (OPERATION NEW DAWN 2010).

From October 2015 to January 2019, LTC Lewis commanded Region III & IV under the Texas Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Command, leading strength management and operations across an area encompassing one-fourth of Texas and managing 72 personnel. Under her leadership, the region was awarded Top Region twice, in 2016 and 2018.

In February 2019, she was appointed Executive Officer of the 111th Multi-functional Medical Battalion (MMB) and AGR Battalion Officer in Charge (OIC). In this role, she oversaw 13 AGR personnel and 78 M-Day Soldiers, ensuring effective staff coordination and synchronization with higher headquarters. She facilitated decision-making for the commander by managing critical staff functions, planning, and operations.

In August 2021, LTC Lewis was appointed as Executive Officer of the Recruiting and Retention Battalion, where she served as the second-in-command for the Texas Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Command. She was directly responsible for overseeing the staff, Brigade Strength Managers, and the Recruit Sustainment Program, ensuring effective coordination was made with Command teams.

LTC Lewis’ awards include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), and numerous other commendations for her distinguished service. She has completed multiple advanced military courses, including the Command and General Staff Officer Course.

She happily resides in Bee Cave, Texas, with her husband Garrett and son Easton, and together they own an industrial water treatment company, Wasser Technologies. LTC Samantha Lewis looks forward to serving as the commander of the Texas Army National Guard Recruiting and Retention Command.

Marc Jaromin

As Director of Public Safety Platforms at Futuri Media, Marc Jaromin leads the development and deployment of BEACON. In this role, Marc collaborates with public safety officials and broadcasters to deliver an exclusive emergency management platform that empowers first responders to better inform their communities before, during, and after any evolving emergency event.

Experienced in all aspects of media operations and organizational advancement, Marc is an entrepreneurial professional specializing in building groundbreaking teams that consistently deliver innovative content and community engagement.

Marc’s career highlights include owner/operator of WDBD-Fox40, WUFX-MY35, and WXMS-MeTV in Jackson, Mississippi; Mojo Brands Media, a national production company in Winter Park, Florida; and Stratus Broadcasting, a 27-station shared services facility in Davenport, Iowa.

Marc has also held VP/GM positions with the EW Scripps Company (WKBW-7ABC in Buffalo, New York) and the Nexstar Media Group (WROC-CBS8/ WUHF-Fox31 in Rochester, New York).

In Washington, DC, Marc serves as Co-Dean of the National Association of Broadcasters Educational Foundation’s Broadcast Leadership Training program. While in Albany, New York, Marc is Dean of the New York State Broadcasters Association’s Rising Leaders training program.

Matthew Straeb

Matthew Straeb is Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Alert FM, where he applies over 25 years of experience in FM broadcasting, mobile-data systems, RF and digital design, and cybersecurity to improve emergency alert resilience.

He leads development of the nationwide Alert FM (GSSNet) infrastructure, which delivers encrypted, targeted alerts through FM radio subcarriers—even when internet and cellular networks are down .

Before joining GSS, Straeb served as VP of Marketing & Product Management for da Vinci Systems and as President of Orad Inc., a subsidiary of Orad Hi-Tec Systems.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Southern Methodist University, where he also lectures as a visiting professor .

Matthew is active in industry and regulatory groups—contributing to FCC CSRIC, NAB’s National Radio Systems Committee, and the Consumer Electronics Association’s CAP-to-Fixed/Mobile working group—helping shape standards and policies in emergency communications.

Emily Heinichen

Emily Heinichen is a Digital and Broadcast Sales & Marketing Specialist with AMP Media/Sinclair Broadcast Group, affiliated with CBS Austin and Telemundo Austin.

Emily graduated with her degree in Advertising and Public Relations from the University of Arkansas. 

Before joining Sinclair, she interned with Kendal King Group, where she worked with CPG brands on in-store displays and e-commerce strategy. She also managed social media accounts, organized networking events, and developed PR plans aimed at increasing clientele and driving sales.

Emily moved to Austin and joined Sinclair nearly two years ago. Since then, she has helped local businesses grow through strategic, results-driven campaigns across broadcast and digital media platforms.

Jose Rodriguez

Jose Rodriguez is a stop motion animator and videographer based in McAllen, Texas, with a passion for storytelling that began at the age of 12. Focused on a future in the film and broadcasting industries.

Jose currently interns with a local radio program led by his professor, where he also hosts his own weekly show, Cinema Buzz. The program showcases his enthusiasm for film as he discusses movie news, reviews, and highlights from the local film community.

Julia Lyle

Julia Lyle is a Sales & Marketing Specialist with AMP Media/Sinclair Broadcast Group, supporting CBS Austin and Telemundo Austin.

She studied psychology and business at the University of Kentucky, originally planning to pursue graduate school in counseling before pivoting into media sales. She likes to justify her TV-watching habits by calling it “research.”

Julia comes from a media-focused family. Her parents met selling radio advertising in Columbus, Ohio, where her father still works in the industry with Sinclair. Her grandfather and uncle also run a small media group in North Central Ohio.

Julia moved to Austin and joined Sinclair nearly two years ago, helping local businesses grow through TV, digital, and streaming advertising.

Sarah Frazier

Sarah Frazier has always loved radio. She began in Kansas City as an Account Executive, was a GSM in Dallas, and is now SVP/Market Manager in Houston for Audacy, a role she has held for the past 13 years. In this position, she oversees four FM & two AM stations (95.7 The Spot, Mix 96.5, 100.3 The Bull, Mega 101, SportsRadio 610 and The Bet 650), and the play-by-play partnership with the Houston Texans in both English and Spanish. 

Frazier holds a B.S. in Journalism and a Masters in Digital Content Strategy from the University of Kansas.  She currently serves on the Boards of the Texas Bowl, the Texas Association of Broadcasters, Rebuilding Together Houston, Advisory Council for the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation, and the Houston Chapter of the KU Alumni Association. 

She has been awarded Market Manager of the Year by the Media Alliance of Houston, and named one of the “100 Most Influential Women in Radio” by Radio Ink.  She won the Chairman and CEO Award from the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Large Market Country General Manager of the Year award from CRS/Country Aircheck, and Broadcaster of the Year by the Texas Association of Broadcasters.  

Her favorite role is of mom to Reagan, an Honors Pre-Law Student at the University of Kansas.

Dan Balla

Dan Balla joined UNT as KNTU’s General Manager on September 1, 2020. He has worked in commercial radio for most of his career, and today retains an ownership stake in a radio company. He has been a Texas certified teacher since 2007, and taught science and social studies in the Frisco ISD.

Balla began his radio career in high school at a small town station in Michigan. He later attended Central Michigan University, where he received a Bachelor’s of Science degree. His early career included jobs in news, on-air DJ, and morning show host.

He has been a program director in Oshkosh, Wisconsin; Lansing, Michigan; Oklahoma City; and Houston. He also held positions with Clear Channel and Cumulus Media as Operations Manager for radio clusters in Columbia, South Carolina, and Mobile, Alabama. While teaching in public schools, he moonlighted as a news anchor in Dallas at KRLD and Metro Networks.

In 2008, Balla ventured into radio ownership as president and majority owner of Falls Media, LLC., based in Wichita Falls, Texas; the company owns and operates KWFB and KXXN.

Dan served on the Executive Board for the Media Arts Department at UNT starting in 2011. He also served as a board member with the Texas Association of Broadcasters.

Val Wilson

Angela Smith-Johnson, widely recognized by her professional moniker “Val Wilson,” is an esteemed veteran in the radio broadcasting industry, boasting an impressive career spanning over four decades. With a wealth of experience in both on-air broadcasting and commercial voice-over production, Val has consistently demonstrated her remarkable talents and expertise.

Val kick-started her journey in broadcasting at KTSU-FM, the campus station of Texas Southern University’s School of Communication, where she graduated from. Since then, she has made significant contributions to several prominent commercial radio stations in the Houston area, assuming various roles in broadcast management throughout her illustrious career.

Notably, Val’s affiliation with Texas Southern University carries a deep personal significance, as she hails from a proud lineage of TSU graduates. Her grandfather, the Rev. Dr. John Reuben Sheeler, served as the former Chair of the History Department at TSU. Furthermore, Val’s parents, multiple family members, and even her daughter all share the distinction of being esteemed TSU graduates, with accomplishments spanning undergraduate and graduate degrees.

To complement her academic achievements, Val holds both a Master of Arts degree in Communication from Texas Southern University and a Master of Business Administration from Huston-Tillotson University, two of the top Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) in Texas. This educational foundation has undoubtedly enhanced her multifaceted skill set and broadened her understanding of the industry.

In 2011, driven by her passion for nurturing future talents and giving back to the industry that shaped her, Val embarked on a rewarding journey as an Instructor in the School of Communication. Her role aims to develop, prepare, and mentor the next generation of aspiring broadcast and voice-acting professionals, solidifying her dedication to fostering excellence in the field.

Val Wilson stands as a highly respected figure in the radio broadcasting community, combining her extensive practical experience, academic prowess, and unwavering commitment to inspiring others. Her remarkable contributions continue to shape the industry and leave an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of aspiring broadcasters and voice actors alike.

Mike Weinisch

Mike Weinisch has been with Nielsen for more than 17 years and is currently the Vice President of Local Audience Insights, supporting Local Television clients. 

He started his career in 2007 with Petry Media as Research Analyst, working closely with local television stations across the US.  He moved on to Nielsen in 2008 and has worked across multiple departments including Sports, Account Management, Sales, Research, and Data Science.  

Mike is based in North Caldwell, New Jersey with his wife Rebecca and their two young daughters, Molly and Shea.
