Bob Stroupe began his broadcast career in 1973 at Mississippi’s first NPR affiliate, WNJC, in Senatobia.  In 1974, while a junior in high school, Bob was hired to do afternoons at WSAO in Senatobia.  Bob eventually became the chief engineer at WSAO after acquiring his First Class Radio Telephone license in 1975.

In 1976 Bob relocated to Greenwood, MS where he was a staff engineer at WABG-TV & AM.

In 1978, while attending Mississippi State University, Bob was the morning host and Chief Engineer at WSSO-AM/WSMU-FM in Starkville, Mississippi.  Bob also did contract engineering work while in that area including serving as the Chief Engineer at WHKW-FM, Fayette, Alabama.

After Mississippi State, Bob relocated to Pensacola, FL in 1982 where he was Chief Engineer at WOWW-FM.  At WOWW, Bob designed and constructed a new transmitter facility which included a 1400 foot tower.  Bob also did a considerable amount of contract engineering work in both radio & TV, including construction of several AM directional antennas while in the Florida panhandle.

In 1990, Bob finally made it to Texas when he became Chief Engineer at Gannett’s KKBQ AM and FM in Houston which had a CHR format.  Bob was honored to work with such Houston Hall of Fame inductees as John Lander and Ron Parker.  During 1991, Gannett changed the format of KKBQ to Country.  Bob then helped KKBQ to become the number 1 ranked Country station in Houston while working with Texas Radio Hall of Fame inductees, Pam Ivey, Cactus Jack Talley, and Sean O’Neal. While at KKBQ Bob designed and constructed three mobile broadcast studios and spent many hours in the mobile studios engineering live broadcasts.

In 1998, Gannett sold KKBQ to Chancellor Media and Bob became the Director of Engineering for all Chancellor stations in Houston. In 2000, Clear Channel purchased all Chancellor stations in Houston and Bob remained with Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) as the local Director of Engineering.  In 2004 Bob designed and constructed a 26 studio complex that consolidated eight stations into one facility.
